RJ Hayden

He/Him

Director

RJ (he/him) is one of our newest board members at KCCI. RJ is a Kansas City native, having been raised here and in Fort Scott, KS. He attended Kansas School for the Deaf and Shawnee Mission East. He currently works as a cashier at Cosentino's Market in Brookside. He lives in KC with his dachshund, Zoey.

RJ has been volunteering at KCCI for about a year. He brings his experience as a former board member at Passages youth group, a passion for providing space for LGBTQ+ people to be together, and enthusiasm about connecting Deaf/HOH people to KCCI. He currently leads a biweekly ASL Club at KCCI, bringing together Deaf and hearing people in an inclusive, fun environment.

Growing up both gay and deaf was what RJ refers to as a "double challenge." He wants to make sure that everyone has a place to go for resources and support for lonely times, no matter what challenges they face. Everyone has a right to be included, to feel the love and support of a community.
