Greater KC Justice Coalition – Let Us Be Dissatisfied: Issues that Unite Us

The GKC Justice Coalition is please to host this 2019 MLK Community Forum to focus attention on the legacy of Dr. King and the call in his 1967 “Where do we go from here?” speech for a restructuring the whole of American society and the observation “one day we must ask the question,
“Why are there forty million poor people in America?”

In his speech he concluded imploring,
“Let us be dissatisfied until America will no longer have a high blood pressure of creeds and an anemia of deeds.
Let us be dissatisfied until the tragic walls that separate the outer city of wealth and comfort from the inner city of poverty and despair shall be crushed by the battering rams of the forces of justice…”

We invite you to hear from community leaders about why and how they are dissatisfied, actions we can take together and how we can use this dissatisfaction to unite us into a powerful movement for social change.

Panel members include:

• Raiza Guevara, advocate Cosecha KC, and Program Coordinator, VIA Immigration & Refugee Ministry, Catholic Diocese of KC /St. Joseph
• Tex Sample, PHD, Pastor, Trinity United Methodist Church, Prof. Emeritus Saint Paul School of Theology, author: Working Class Rage and activist with Jobs with Justice, MORE2, and with The Urban Summit
• Tiana Caldwell, leader in Kansas City Tenant’s Union, MORE2
• Seft Hunter, Executive Director, Communities Creating Opportunity
